During the 1950s when the post war construction expansion was taking place, the bidding process was wild and unreliable particularly in the Mechanical Industry. Mechanical Contractors began discussing forming a Bid Depository, in doing so the Mechanical Contractors Association and the Bid Depository were born. During the early to mid 1980s a crisis was developing in the world of workers' compensation insurance. The MCA membership created the MCA of NM Workers' Compensation Group Fund.
