Services Offered

Jan Broderick specializes in providing individual, couple and family counseling. Here are some of Jan's areas of expertise.

How Did Jan start with the Social Work

Here is what Jan has to say about what inspired her to get involved helping people with their psychological issues:

I love working with and helping people. I believe that everyone in our society deserves a chance at happiness and I love to be a part of that journey to help them reach their goals and dreams. I believe strongly in the mind body connection and encourage people to pay attention to not only what they are thinking and doing but also what their body is telling them ie. physical sensations and symptoms that can lead to pain or disease if not recognized and dealt with. I also have a license as a Certified Massage Therapist, but I don't currently practice (did that to get through grad school) but it continues to make me very aware of how stress and anger becomes absorbed into the body when not released or dealt with.

Jan's Areas of Specialty

I have two specialty areas:

Supporting and working with women who have or may be at risk for developing Postpartum Depression. The counseling and education includes attachment work with the mother and child to help them when the bonding process has not occurred due to the depression. Providing therapy and education to the partner/spouse family and friends of the mother is also a part of the treatment process.

My other specialty is working with individuals and couples where one or both are in the Safety Profession (policeman, deputy, fireman, DistrictAttorney(DA) Judicial/courts. They have unique challenges and stress factors that are different than typical "civilians" . Without support and education they can experience depression, anxiety and illness that can disrupt their professional and family life.
