Wiki Inventor Ward Cunningham Joins AboutUs
PORTLAND, OREGON - May 17, 2007 — Ward Cunningham, the internationally known inventor of the web technology known as "wiki" joins AboutUs as Chief Technology Officer. Cunningham's invention is considered to be the most open and collaborative of all platforms for creating and organizing websites - topping even forums and weblogs.
AboutUs, an open content wiki company founded in 2005, harnesses the collaborative nature of wikis to create a wide ranging web-based resource about commercial and general information. The company initially seeded their wiki http://www.AboutUs.org with millions of pages about websites. In the months since the wiki went live millions of users have visited it and improved it by editing or creating pages.
"Ward is a tremendous addition to our team,” said AboutUs founder and CEO Ray King. "His unique perspective and deep understanding of collaboration culture will help to ground us as we strive to connect more and more people."
Wiki technology and culture allow collaboration to take place on a global scale. AboutUs offers a platform for people to employ the values that make wiki culture work: trust, transparency, self organization and the joy of building something together. As King says, wikis and the AboutUs community are as much about how people work together as what they build.
“I’m excited to join AboutUs,” Cunningham said. “This company really gets that wiki is more about how we work together than the technology we use. They are already doing a great job of sharing wiki culture with a very broad audience. I look forward to adding to their momentum and helping discover what the next revision of the wiki way looks like."
