Veveo Inc., is venture capitalist funded start-up headquartered in Andover, Massachusetts, that has developed a recently beta-launched video search engine vtap designed for enhanced user experience on broadband enabled phones. The company claims vTap has a huge index of web videos comparable to the biggest video portals, and provides a search-and-browse system that enables finding videos from a huge network database even using devices such as phones and TVs in an easy and intuitive manner. In addition, a video selected by a user from the vTap can be played on a number of phones including phones, Windows mobile phones, as well as several Nokia phones and Blackberry's. One of the key features claimed is that even though the videos in vTap are from thousands of sites and the online videos themselves come in various formats that don’t readily play on phones, Veveo's network servers convert the original format on-the-fly into a format that can stream and play on the specific phone in question. Veveo's basic search technology is not specific to videos and the vTap service also provides a phone-enhanced Wikipedia search service. The same technology can also be used to enhance remote-control based TV Listings and VOD search being offered by IPTV and Cable TV Operators.

Features

Veveo’s vTap makes finding and viewing web videos on input and/or display constrained devices super quick and easy. Just type in the beginning letters of a title, an actor’s name or any other clue you can think of. vTap’s highly-advanced, proprietary algorithms take it from there—pulling and arranging results so you can quickly view and select the one you want—even on a small device with limited display and navigation capabilities. With vTap's unique character-based incremental search—where results are returned with every character entered—you can perform searches using just a few characters instead of whole keywords. Simply stop typing characters once the video you are looking for is found. vTap can even detect spelling errors and automatically correct them and display the most relevant results. Even if you don't have a specific keyword in mind, vTap lets you browse for a video you like. Veveo's specialized web crawlers are focused on video, resulting in a web video index that is one of the deepest and fastest growing in the web today - providing an abundance of web videos at the fingertips of consumers. With vTap, content creators and distributors can drive more revenues from their web-based video asset libraries. Mobile operators can deliver a satisfying web video experience, attract more subscribers and boost data revenues. TV and cable providers can do all of the above while providing web video viewing for their subscribers right on the TV, instead of on the PC.
