Handheld Radios

Handheld radios (also sometimes called Portable Radios) are some of the most popular items for sale on our site. These radios are usually worn on a belt or carried in your hand. Mobile Radios

Mobile radios are two way radios placed in vehicles. Taxis, police cars, delivery vans, all use mobile radios. They have more power than handheld radios since they run off the car's battery, therefore they can communicate for longer distances than handheld radios. Otherwise they operate much the same way as a handheld radio. Repeaters

At Quality Two-Way Radios we carry a selection of two way radio repeaters. A Repeater can extend the range of a radio by 'boosting' the signal where the repeater is located so the signal may continue traveling. It can help get ‘around’ obstacles, or simply extend the range of communication beyond what is possible with a handheld or mobile radio alone. We offer UHF and VHF Repeaters, Digital Repeaters, Cross-Band Repeaters, or Combination Repeater/Base Station units.

Cross-Band Repeaters

A cross band repeater allows users on different frequency bands to communicate with each other. It does this by converting the frequency signals between the two radio systems. For example, a fire department using VHF radio system may need to communicate with a police department using UHF. They can use a cross band repeater to communicate with each other. The cross band repeater receives a UHF signal from the police department and converts the signal to VHF, then retransmits the signal to the fire department. The reverse takes place when the transmission goes the other way.

Base Stations

Base stations are two way radios placed on a desk or counter. They pug into a standard electrical wall socket, and use a antenna usually located on the highest point of the building where they are located. They also can have up to 100 watts of power, need special licensing and setup, and you can expect more range with base station radios. These radios are typically used in a dispatch type of operation.
