Ever since I was a lad I have been fascinated about the wealth of detail contained in the four volumes of Audels Carpenters and Builders Guide owned by my father. In his earlier years he was a carpenter and treasured these volumes. I was never a carpenter (but did once build a sailing dingy). Nevertheless I have regularly come back to pondering the detailed description of old, sound skills contained in these volumes.
I decided that the material would be of immense value to people all over the world who were interested in historic restoration, renovating houses built in the first half of the 20th century and earlier and that the power of the web would enable that information to be shared. Converting all the information available to a web format will be an immense task which I may not be able to complete but here is a start. I hope you find it useful. If you have any comment you can make it at the comment page.
In converting the text to web format I decided that the information was more important than the original formatting and layout. I have therefore, in the interests of easier understanding, abandoned most of the formatting and layout of the original document while, I hope, respecting the intentions of the original publishers. I have tried to more closely associate the diagrams with the text, again to aid understanding, and I have corrected any typographical errors I have discovered. If you note any errors please let me know and, if you have any suggestions for improvement I would like to hear them. Also, if you wish to suggest that I next work on a particular chapter I would be delighted to do my best to accommodate you.
