Infasurf is indicated for the PREVENTION of Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) in premature infants at high risk for RDS and for the TREATMENT "rescue" of newborn infants who develop RDS. Infasurf decreases the incidence of RDS when used as prevention. When used either to prevent or treat RDS, Infasurf lowers the incidence of lung air leaks (pneumothorax, pneumomediastinum, and pulmonary interstitial emphysema) and reduces the mortality associated with RDS.<br />
