The 'Fancy Rats' website was co-founded in May 2000 by Angela and her brother Darren. The idea being to provide information and resources to rat owners. It was hoped that the site would eventually help create a UK based, online community of fellow rat lovers.

Over the next few months the website was created. Angela, who at the time had been keeping rats for 4 years, used her knowledge and experience of rats to provide the content. Whilst Darren, a graphic designer, set about constructing the site.

Then on the 5 November 2000 the website was officially launched, or rather it was put online in the hope that people would visit. And visit they did....

−	Fancy Rats also was effected by the owner of Ratz Tails, Rachael "Tabby", under the name of Queenrat2008. She complained regarding a respected breeder breeding "too many rats" and was accused of being a troll and stealing IDs. Once respected member kates pet komforts, of FR, trolled RatzTails.co.uk's Guestbook, resulting in Rachael's parenta trolling her websites gestbook. Kate reported the matter to the police later to find out that this did not result in anything. The general outcome is unknown but it is thought nothing happened from this, however one Ratz Tails member told us "Ratz Tails is supportive, and actually cares about their rats - the members care about their animals. The whole thing with Fancy Rats? Well that is definitely not over. They don't just walk away from things."
