Gokarna is an ancient town in northern Karnataka, Gokarna town is a major pilgrimage site for Hindus and is famous for its Gokarnanatha Shiva Temple. The Mahabaleshwara is one of the major temples here. The deity here is two-armed, standing, and at least 1500 years' old. The Bhadrakali and Venkataramana temples, Kotiteertha tank etc., are other holy places here. Also located around Gokarna are Sejjeshwara, Gunavanteshwara, Murudeshwara and Dhareshwara.
