eVisioner Incorporated is the maker of MetaTeam, a team performance mangagement Web application.

Team performance management is focused on groups of people and their productivity. After years of organizational learning, team- and project-oriented companies are very good at tasks and schedules. However, they tend to be much less skilled at organizing teams for success. In fact, until MetaTeam, there were virtually no products that acted as a supporting framework for organizing the team itself and managing team performance, despite the clear need and even the guidance of project management standards.

MetaTeam organizes people into teams and groups. Teams engage in projects and may contain sub-groups (such as committees, tiger teams, etc). Individuals also have personal groups in a kind of project-oriented social network.

Each team, project and group has roles, goals, decisions, responsibilities and relationships. Teams and projects also have a charter. The interrelationship between these concerns is key part of how MetaTeam makes team management explicit and well-understood by all involved.

Relationships are an important part of MetaTeam. Multiple teams may collaborate on one project, and projects can "borrow" individuals and whole groups. Moreover, each team, project, group and person may catalog, categorize and document their relationships at a fine-grained level.

Team decision making is often a difficult area, especially for virtual teams and people who are new to team oriented work. MetaTeam puts considerable focus on quality decision making. Decisions are created within distinct decision models. I.e. collected in groups of decisions that will be made in a particular way, such as by consensus, by the team leader, etc. Each decision may support one or more stated goals. To help you evaluate and prioritize decisions every decision is scored according to its:

  • Finality (can it be remade?)
  • Exclusivity (does it preclude other options?)
  • Immediacy (how soon do you have to decide?)
  • Evaluability (can you tell how good the outcome is?)

From there you can add facts, requirements and options. Team members can express preferences by voting in open polls or secret ballots. And, finally, the person or people with the responsibility for the decision can finalize the outcome by adding one or more resolutions.
