Many of the streets of Edinburg were named after Southern Pacific railroad officials in an attempt to persuade Southern Pacific to build a line to the Rio Grande Valley. Street names include Van Vleek (Van Week), Lovett, Peter, Loeb, Kuhn, McIntyre, Harriman (later changed to University), Mahl, Stubbs, and Fay.
