Centre for Advanced Transport Engineering and Research

CATER grew from a strong desire to improve the services and products available to the rail infrastructure industry worldwide.

Formed The Centre for Advanced Transport Engineering and Research (CATER) was formed to improve rail flaw detection (RFD) accuracy, repeatability and ease of use and to meet the growing demand for technical research and product development.

Our company was formed in 1996. Initially, we concentrated on improving service and maintenance support for rail instrumentation systems. This has expanded into a successful product range offering electronic computer track measurement and advanced user-orientated software systems, leading to the development of the ULTRAWave RFD and RIPWave analysis systems.

Core Values We regard most highly the moral and ethical values of openness and honesty towards our customers, suppliers and employees in all dealings with them as partners to deliver the best services and solutions.

Products

Our product range includes the unique MetroTrolley for zero-emission rail environments and the HANDWave single rail tester with similar performance as the much larger RFD vehicles.

An imaging system VLIDS (Video Location and IDentification System) provides visual confirmation of the rail vicinity.

RIPWave is able to collate and synchronise collected information of many different types to allow a predictive analysis attitude towards rail maintenance and renewal.
