YWCA of Banff Official Website, Alberta, Canada
Description
The Young Women's Christian Association (of Calgary) began its first chapter in Banff in 1909 in order to provide safe housing for women.
As well, the YWCA provided housing in Field, BC and Lake Louise, Alberta from 1912. The YWCA provided housing for both men and women on Grizzly Street (1910-1912), then Otter Street (1912-1935) and then on Muskrat Street (1936-1987). Then in 1987, the YWCA of Banff acquired the old hospital building on Spray Ave for $1.
The YWCA of Banff became an independent chapter from the YWCA of Calgary in 1997. Our Board of Directors, made up of between 8 and 12 women, are active and passionate about supporting women in the community and the world.
