Mackinaw Kites & Toys carries colorful, quality, hands-on fun such as toys, games, puzzles, windsocks, banners, yo-yos, and (who would've guessed!) kites of all types, shapes, and sizes.
Then called Mackinaw Kite Co., our first store opened its doors in Mackinaw City, Michigan in 1981. It is one of the oldest kite stores in the world. A second store opened in Grand Haven, Michigan in 1986. With the purchase of its own building in 1997, the Grand Haven location became one of the world's largest kite stores as well.
Annually, Mackinaw Kites & Toys holds several kite festivals to promote kite flying as a hobby and a sport. The first is the Great Lakes Winter Kite Races. This event features kite fliers being pulled across the ice on Reeds Lake in East Grand Rapids. It takes place in January or February. Our largest event is the Great Lakes Kite Festival, held the weekend before Memorial Weekend in May. It takes place at the State Park in Grand Haven. The Mackinaw City Kite Festival is a fun fly in June. Grand Haven's beaches see another event in September where the challenging sport of kiteboarding is the focus. The final event of the year is the One Sky One World International Kite Fly For Peace. On the second Sunday in October, people fly kites to promote the spirit of peace. Thousands of people in hundreds of cities worldwide participate in this event. We also host this fly on the beach in Grand Haven. For dates of upcoming events, check our News and Events Page.
