Yachigusa-Ryu Aiki Bugei Dojo

Description

Y achigusa-ryu martial techniques were created by warriors in 15th and 16th century Japan and refined in the Tokugawa period (1603-1864). These methods were used for martial survival in an island environment where warfare was conducted on open plains and water ways, on and off of horse back, in cities and in buildings including castles and farm houses. Very few martial arts schools teach these classical martial arts today. Yachigusa-ryu teaches in this classical, or Koryu Bujutsu, tradition.

T he sword and spear were central weapons for warriors in feudal times. Addionally Samurai schooled themselves in the use of various other defensive weapons and techniques including the metal fan ( tessen ), bow and arrow, the Jutte , restraining with rope ( hojo jutsu ), swimming clad with armour, hand-to-hand combat and battle stratagies.

H and-to-hand combat and the use of bladed weapons form the core of Yachigusa-ryu Aiki-jujitsu. While students practice classical techniques in the Dojo much of what is studied continues to have contemporary relevence and application.
