Welcome to life in the new millennium. At one stage in human civilization, we had planes, trains, and automobiles connecting us physically to just about every part of the world. People could now experience new cultures, environments, and ways of life with ease. Then, the Internet was born.
Once the Internet came on the scene, we were given the power to reach out and touch someone. Yes, we could do it with the telephone, but now we could do it faster, better and cheaper. We could put our fingers in places all over the world and feel the pulse of another’s life. (Wow, this is starting to sound dirty… I like it!) But there is a problem with the ability to be everywhere.
Modern cultures encourage us to scatter. We have our in-person friends, our Internet friends, buddies on the other side of the planet, and our little outlets of creativity chopped into kibble and distributed thought the globe. For some of us, this is a good thing. We are different people in different places. I don’t feel this way.
