The Who's the Boss? Resource :: Home

Description

Before founding WTB?R, I'd hosted several web sites. My first, in 1996, was dedicated to video games and the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes. I didn't do much with that or my second site, also dedicated to video games. In March of 2000, I began hosting a site dedicated to the video game Harvest Moon 64. I soon realized there's only so much that can be said about a single game and got bored with it... I still wanted to continue to develop a web site, but couldn't decide what the subject matter should be. At the time, I had just begun watching Who's the Boss?, which quickly became my favorite show. I also noticed that there was a marked lack of good information about WTB? on the internet. So, I set out to create a fan site dedicated to it.

On March 18th, 2000 I introduced The Who's the Boss? Resource. In the beginning, people found WTB?R through the (now defunct) Megafan.net site and then by word of mouth. WTB?R started out small, averaging around 10 or so visitors each day in the first few weeks. But, as word spread about the site (and it slowly started showing up in search engines), its popularity increased. We are now an international community, with an average of 500+ visitors a day from all around the globe...

WTB?R was originally hosted by Xoom, who offered their services for free. These were the glory days of the internet - web space abound. I had over 2gb of data on the site, mainly videos. WTB?R's original home was at http://members.xoom.com/jmcale. In November, I purchased a new domain, wtbr.com, for the site. As WTB?R and the Internet grew, I began to see some challenges in their ever increasing sizes. In the fall, the site started experiencing frequent downtime. The reason was that, in September, Xoom.com had been bought out by NBC. After the buyout, their services became unreliable. The site would go down for days at a time, sometimes as long as a week. To top it off, they started adding pop-up ads.
