Description
The year was 1945; a time when people were having difficulty paying for necessary health care. In response, the State Medical Society developed the Wisconsin Plan as a low cost insurance product that permitted Wisconsin residents to budget the costs of health care. A year later, in 1946, the State Medical Society established Wisconsin Physicians Service (WPS) to market and administer the plan. And that’s how our story officially begins.
Today, affordable health care is again among people’s top concerns. And once again WPS is at the forefront, offering flexible, cost-effective health plan solutions to the individual, small group, large group, and senior markets.
WPS Health Insurance is one of the largest health benefits providers in the state, and after nearly 60 years, remains Wisconsin’s only not-for-profit insurer offering health plans statewide to the public and private sectors. With offices in Madison, Milwaukee, Wausau, Appleton, and Eau Claire, and over 5,700 employees, we’re deeply committed to this state and its citizens.
