Born and raised in Switzerland, Chris, first studied the art and science of violin making in Mittenwald, Germany where he received his diploma from the famed violin school. From there he went on to work as violin maker for the Vienna Philharmonic. He moved to the US in 1973 where his violin making became a sideline. In spite of many other interests such as cabinetmaking, farming, research, and the airline industry, Chris always remained loyal to his artistic woodworking skills.
Once while working on a 4' x 8' plate to be used for a table, he decided to draw a design on the base plate
These works of art are compositions of quarter-inch thick pieces of different kinds of beautiful woods, each unique and extraordinarily detailed.
