WirelessFoundation.org funds projects that use wifi to help American Communities

Title

The Wireless Foundation

Description

The national CALL TO PROTECT program enables people to retire their wireless phones in a manner that will help the environment and provide phones, with matching airtime, to domestic violence agencies. In addition, the funds generated through CALL TO PROTECT collections and other wireless industry programs have provided grants totaling over $10,000,000 to national organizations leading the campaign to end domestic violence.

Every day more than 200,000 wireless phone calls are made to 9-1-1. That is why the VITA™ (Latin for "life") Wireless Samaritan Awards are presented annually to honor people across the United States who used their wireless technology to save lives, stop crime and help in other emergency situations. These individuals exemplify the importance of putting safety first, as well as the crucial role wireless technology can play in emergencies.

The Wireless Foundation and the membership of CTIA-The Wireless Association® have partnered with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and the U.S. Department of Justice to deliver AMBER Alerts to wireless phones.
