Hello, I am Kenan. I discovered Hungarian wines after marrying a Hungarian! I realised that there was more to Hungarian wines than just Bulls Blood and Tokaj. And when I moved to Hungary I decided to set up this site to encourage more people to explore Hungarian wines. I hope you will enjoy it.
There is a two thousand year history of wine making in Hungary, so wine is really a strong part of the Hungarian culture and since the fall of communism a lot of private and independent winemakers have emerged producing quality red and white wines.
Both red and white wines are produced here, roughly speaking White in the north and Red in the South (but with exceptions). Many wines made in Hungary are of the familiar varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merloxt and Chardonnay but have a style that is very Hungarian. There are the fascinating Hungarian grape varieties as well - Kadarka, Kékfrankos, Juhfark, Furmint for example, are unique to Hungary. Hungarian wines provide a whole host of new experiences as well as individual interpretations on established themes.
