Williams Companies, Inc. is engaged in the production, gathering, processing and transport of natural gas for the purpose of heating homes and generating electricity throughout the United States. Current reserves are pegged at 3.9 trillion cu. ft. of natural gas equivalent.

The company's Gas Pipeline Unit operates three major pipeline companies -- Transco, Northwest and Gulfstream. Together, these three companies jointly operate some 14,600 miles of interstate natural gas pipeline.

The company began in 1908 when brothers Miller and David Williams created a construction firm that would later become the leading pipeline engineering and construction firm in the world. The company went public as Williams Brothers in 1957 with an estimated net worth of US$ 8 million.

As of mid-2007, Williams had 3,913 employees. Total sales were pegged at US$ 11.8 billion at end-2006.

It owns and operates the three pipelines of Transco, Northwest and Gulfstream (partially) which, combined, accounts for about 14,600 miles of interstate natural gas pipelines. This vast pipeline network has a design capacity of over 11 billion cubic feet per day.

During winter, Williams provides enough gas to heat 30 million homes a day. Its seasonal storage capacity is pegged at over 230 billion cubic feet.
