Title

Wah Lum Kung Fu Athletic Association of Boston's Chinatown

Description

Wah Lum Kung Fu of the U.S.A. was started by Grandmaster Chan Pui in Boston over 35 years ago. He was one of the first martial artists to place a great importance on diversity and to start a school open to all who would work hard to master the art. Sifu Bob Rosen has been teaching Wah Lum Kung Fu over 25 years and currently operates the New England Headquarters in Boston’s Chinatown. He continues the proud tradition of developing first rate martial artists through the rigorous physical training of Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu balanced by a philosophy that stresses self control, respect for others, fellowship and hard work.

Kung Fu is the colloquial term used to describe the Chinese martial arts. Kung Fu has been in existence for over 4,000 years. The many aspects of Kung Fu include body and mind strengthening, self-defense, hand forms, weapons, philosophy and herbal medicine.

The Praying Mantis style of Kung Fu was created by Master Wong Long over 350 years ago in Shantung Province. Over the years several branches emerged, one being the Wah Lum Praying Mantis System, named for a temple in Jinan, China. A skillful martial artist studying there, Lee Kwan Shan, later combined his family style, Tam Tui (emphasizing strong leg movements) with the Wah Lum Praying Mantis to form well-round, effective system known as the Wah Lum Tam Tui Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu. One of Lee Kwan Shan's disciples was Chan Pui, the man who brought this system to the United States. In 1980, Grandmaster Chan opened the Wah Lum temple in Orlando Florida; America's most advanced Kung Fu training facility. In 1984 he reestablished his New England headquarters in Boston's Chinatown and passed on the responsibilities to Sifu Bob Rosen to instruct and preserve the traditions of the system.
