About utahcentral.com

Karl S. Little organized Utah Central Credit Union in 1940 as a state chartered credit union. He organized Utah Central with 17 members as the credit union for credit unions. Utah Central was set up for two purposes. The first was to extend credit union service to officers and committee members of Utah credit unions that were prohibited from using their own credit union for their credit needs. The second was to provide an interlending service between credit unions within the state. Members from liquidated credit unions would become members of Utah Central as part of a merger. Utah Central became a place for credit unions to invest with and to borrow from depending on their needs. Utah Central Credit Union originally operated as a subsidiary of the Utah League of Credit Unions.

In 1960 Utah Central separated ties with the league and split itself into two separate entities, Utah Central Credit Union and Corporate Central Credit Union. Utah Central was now a credit union that took on employee groups that were too small to start their own credit union. At one time Utah Central had over 425 small employee groups to draw on for membership. One thing that has never changed is our involvement in mergers. Over the years we have merged over 50 credit unions. With such a diverse membership base, Utah Central changed its by-laws and focus from employee group based to more of a community-oriented approach. Because the law would allow, we changed our by-laws in 1983 to serve the twenty-nine counties of the State of Utah. Due to recent legislation, we now serve two counties, Salt Lake and Carbon Counties, and over 250 small employee groups.
