We are proud members of Local 892 and our cause is to improve working conditions for all men and women in the work place. Before unions companies were able to set their own wages, hours, and production standards. There was an absence of seniority rights, therefore; workers were laid off, promoted, transferred and fired at the company's whim. There were no grievance procedures, health and safety measures, rest periods, call-in-pay, wash-up time, premium pay, vacation pay, hospitalization, sick time, life insurance or workman's compensation. Without the union, workers were denied basic ethical rights.
