- Calling J Mascis the godfather of indie rock is certainly a debatable move, with the likes of Thurston Moore and maybe Frank Black jockeying for position. But, if we had to give in and call those other guys godfathers, then Mascis would be more the quiet uncle of indie rock. Notoriously hard to interview and known as someone with "just not a lot to say," as he admits, Mascis has never really received the true acknowledgment the way many of his imitators and contemporaries of late have.
