I'm János Mazura, a free-lance classical and jazz tuba player. I was born in 1970 Budapest. By the time I got my diploma at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 1995 I'd already spent two years in Turkey as the Principal Tubist of the Istanbul State Opera. Since that as a free-lance musician I've been playing with the major symphonic orchestras in Budapest. (E.g.: Hungarian Radio Symphony, Hungarian Opera. etc.) I often play solo recitals and give chamber concerts with the "Brummadza Tuba Ensemble" or with my wife Mária Lévai harpist.
From 1995 I have more and more jazz gigs as well. I play with an "acoustic blues" band called: "Dr. Valter and the Lawbreakers", and I often appear as jazz soloist in several jazz formations. I am the member of the Odessa Klezmer Band, the Someday Baby blues trio and the Mosquito Jazz trio as well.
In 1997 I won second prize in the "Street Music" category at the "Verso il Millenio" international tuba and euphonium conference, (ITEC) in Riva del Garda, Italy, and was also second at the Rich Matteson Tuba Jazz Competition in Regina, Canada at the ITEC 2000.
