- Nail infections are due to an infection of the nail bed with streptococcus aureus, pseudomonas, proteus, herpes simplex, or candida albicans. The latter is common in diabetics. Treatment consists of soaks in salt water and the use of cephalexin, dicloxacillin, and fluconazole in the case of candida infections.
