After an initial exposure several years ago to the wonderful garments made of alpaca, Troy and Mary Ogilvie returned home and began in-depth research into the alpaca industry. Two years later they moved to a rural area East of the DFW Metroplex in Northeast Texas. They began working to prepare the property for the animals, and started building the herd. Alpaca breeding and sales are the main focal points for their business model, but the fine garments made of alpaca fiber remains an important part, as well. Since 2008, Troy has been active as a Certified Fiber Sorter. Mary and Troy both work to operate a Regional Collection Facility for the North American Alpaca Fiber Producers co-op. Timber Lodge Alpacas is a family owned and operated ranch in Kaufman, Texas. The ranch is operated as a sustainable agricultural business, which is environmentally sensitive, and concerned for the humane care of the animals.
