Title

Thornbury Chamber of Commerce

Description

Its testament to the fact that the Thornbury Chamber of Commerce is a long established organisation that one of its founder members, Mr Dick Shipp, can only give a rough date to its first meeting being somewhere between the late 1950's and early 1960's.

Originally meetings were held in the Church Institute building, which until recently were the premises of the Compleat Cookshop. In the mid 60's to the meetings moved to the Old Post Office, which is now the Thai restaurant.

With the close of the 1960's chamber meetings took place in local public houses, which at around the same time saw the attachment and affilition of the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce, with meetings taking place in pubs in Thornbury and Berkeley on a rota system, which undoubtedly were quite a headache for the then and current secratary Mrs Ann Pike to organise.
