The Stamp Store has been established for over 6 years now, and has been trading from it's present location for 3.5 years. This town centre shop is a far cry from how it all started!
Originally, Miriam began trading from a 'table top' in the local market hall. The table cost £10 a day and Miriam was keen to share her love of stamping with local people. It's a wonder she kept going, because that very first day her takings were only £7.06, which didn't even cover the cost of the table! However, Miriam had determination and persevered - eventually the word got out, and soon there was a core of regular shoppers at the little table top.
This was a big improvement on the market stall, and allowed customers much more room to browse. It also allowed for more stock to be displayed, until eventually even this shop was overflowing. As the location was a little off the beaten track, and the shop was a bit dark and draughty, when another shop became available in the town centre it was moving time again! The present location in Cavendish Street is much larger and brighter - though of course, as with most craft shops -there is never enough room!!
