- The Range originated in the markets of the Southwest where Chris Dawson started business in 1980 as an open air market trader. It is from these humble roots that The Range has grown with the company opening the first 'superstore' at Sugar Mill Business Park in Plymouth in 1989. There are now 30 stores as far afield as York offering 65,000 products across 16 departments and employing over 2,500 staff.
