SurfaceCity was born by accident, much like my sister (or so my parents tell me), as a sort-of non-tourist, non-Citysearch guide to Boston. Much of the inspiration came from PlanetSOMA, which, if you've been there, you've probably noticed.
Obviously, that quote isn't about this site (it refers to the Georgia Review). In the late '90s, when this site was developed, the inverse of that statement applied all too well to Boston. In some cases it still does (e.g., the "Ladder District"), but the shine is starting to wear through. You'll be surprised by what's underneath.
