Because working in Liverpool we noticed that a lot of young actors lacked a social and professional network, lacked basic work skills, lacked an understanding of the "Cultural and Media Industries", lacked a solid vision of acting as a job. There was also a vicious circle, not unique to theatre; no work without experience, no experience without work.
We were encountering very talented people who simply didn't know how to progress in their chosen industry, didn't have the opportunity to learn from more experienced practitioners. We were encountering more experienced practitioners who, for whatever reason, didn't want to commit to the nomadic lifestyle of the jobbing stage actor.
There seemed to be a need for a half way house, a bridge between college and full professional work. As demanding as a professional company but more supportive and able to encourage emerging actors as they sought work in the Cultural and Media Industries.
