The company was founded in 2000 by Salim Benadel as the trading face for his freelance web design services. Being a developer with a Microsoft background most of Salim's web work was developed using Microsoft's Active Server Page technology. As such the majority of his client's web sites required a reliable hosting platform that could successfully support ASP technology and at an affordable cost. Sourcing out a suitable supplier was not the simple task one might have expected though. For although there was no shortage of choice, Salim found that where one company offered a strength, it also had a weakness. Finding a hosting plan that could offer the balance of performance, reliability and affordable became a research intensive task. As a designer, this choice was an important one as it would determine the efficiency of the web sites he produced and in turn reflect greatly on his reputation.
This real world experience gave Salim an understanding of the limitations, pitfalls and inadequacies of the many hosting options presented to the professional web developer. After more than three years hosting sites with a number of different companies, Salim set about hiring his own servers and creating the perfect hosting plan for Microsoft ASP web developers. In May 2003 the debut plan was launched and Storm Internet became one of the first companies in the UK to offer a hosting plan powered by the latest Microsoft Windows 2003 operating system. Retailing at an annual cost of only £49.99, the plan offered more features than the competitions nearest equivalent and sold at a fraction of the cost.
