Located in LaGrange, Georgia, the firm's mission is to provide innovative solutions for its customers' computer-based communications objectives. Specialties include Internet consulting, website design, video production & editing, screensaver creation, and CD-ROM development.
Paul Tate launched the company in August 1996 with a mission to develop online media properties for a broad audience. Soon after the founding, Tate began a partnership with writer/performer Tony Daniel to develop the company’s flagship project, a film review web site called Dr. Daniel’s Movie Emergency. The site’s comedic framework revolves around an “urgent-care clinic” for the treatment of addicted film fanatics, supported by a wealth of interesting features, reviews, essays, games, and contests. The site debuted formally on December 15, 1996, and numerous awards soon followed, including the Cool Site of the Day, widely considered the top daily award on the Web. In addition to appearing on scores of online ‘cool’ lists, the site has been featured in The Los Angeles Times, Windows Magazine, PC World, Internet Underground, and Web Magazine.
March 1997 saw the launch of another Stairwell property, Stare Down Sally, an interactive web game based on the concept of a childhood staring contest. Visitors to the site encounter Sally, a green-eyed enchantress who challenges them to see who can stare the longest. The quirky site captured the imagination of over 100,000 visitors in its first year, while garnering the prestigious Cool Site of the Day award, a Yahoo Strange Site recognition, a USA Hot Site notice, and praise from many site reviewers.
