Description
The Southern Ridge Church of Christ is a congregation of Christians meeting in south Oklahoma City. The congregation was established in 1974 as the Northeast Church of Christ in Moore, Oklahoma. It retained that name and its location in northeast Moore until 1999.
On May 3rd of that year a massive tornado struck the area and heavily damaged the congregation's building. The congregation worked together, vowed to stay together, and met for a short time in a funeral home's chapel, then rented space in a strip mall. During this time the congregation's elders realized the situation might be a blessing in disguise and they reached a decision: they would contract to have a new building constructed in a new (and better) location.
In February 2001, the current location at 2237 SW 134th was officially "open for business." The name Northeast was no longer descriptive and the congregation selected the new name Southern Ridge from among several possibilities.
