Southern Skirmish Association

Description

SOSKAN, (Southern Skirmish Association), is the oldest American Civil War Re-enacting Society outside of the United States, and is now in it's 37

year. In this time the Association has performed in many and varied venues around Britain, the Continent and the USA. Places such as small local fetes, county shows, large country clubs and stately homes with the most prestigious event being the Royal Tournament in 1991. Members of Soskan have been used by film and TV companies for documentaries, feature films and advertising including the White Mansions CD with Eric Clapton. We do this by means of "living history" re-enactments, with many members camping out in period costume and accommodation (modern camps are available for those less inclined to rough it!), followed by performance in realistic battle scenes and skirmishes, including artillery, cavalry as well as infantry forces. Ladies are especially welcome, whether in period costume, or on the battlefield, the latter in disguise as warfare was not considered a proper activity for a lady in the the later 1860s! Many friendships have been forged within the Society over the years, and the continued dedication of many of its members give testimony to the enjoyment and fulfillment that they receive through their membership of the Society.
