In the spring of 1978 Jay Knick opened an outdoor seconds outlet in Santa Rosa, California, in the heart of the California Wine Country. It was back in the days when almost everything for the outdoors was made in the U.S.A. and good outdoor equipment was hard to find. Traveling to Berkeley, Portland and Boulder, where many of the manufacturers were located in those days, Jay rummaged through the seconds and closeout bins in the back rooms of warehouses to stock his growing store. Times have certainly changed in the last 30 years for the outdoor business. Great equipment is easier to find and the merchandise comes to him, rather than the other way around.
Sonoma Outfitters has grown over the years, specializing in high quality outdoor equipment and clothing. All employees are factory trained, avid outdoors people and proud to offer famous brands and expert advise for the hiker, traveler, skier paddler, climber, or armchair mountaineer.
