Solomon Colors
Description
Solomon Colors was started by the Solomon Family in 1927. During the early years of the operation, Solomon colors was involved in underground mining of coal as well as crushing, grinding, and blending various natural minerals such as slate and iron ore. As the use of high sulfur coal in Central Illinois was being phased out by various power companies, the Solomon business shifted in the direction of providing various grind levels of natural iron ore to the foundry and trace mineral industries.
A natural extension of this product line was to supply companies that were marketing pigment for cementitious products. This product line was the primary business of Solomon Colors for many years up until the early 1970s. At this point in time, Bob Solomon introduced the concentrated Mortar Colors A, H, and X series products. In addition, Solomon created a line of concrete product colors for the production of colored masonry units such as block pavers, patio pavers, roof tile, and also for use in ready mix and precast applications.
Solomon Colors continues today as a employee owned, family managed corporation, whose business is to provide iron oxide pigments to the masonry and concrete industry. For over fifty years, service and quality have been the key words to the success of Solomon Colors.
