Description
Skyland Gardens is located the the home of Bob and Martha Hale. The garden can be described as an out-of-control hobby garden. We are located 8 miles from Jonesborough on a 6 1/4 acre track of land. Over 1000 varieties of daylilies will be blooming this year, plus 5000+ daylily seedlings from Bob's hybridizing program. Bob has been growing daylilies for 40 years and has been hybridizing over 25 years. Bob is primarily interested in hybridizing large flowering tetraploid daylilies, which represent the majority of the seedlings in the garden. A display of some promising seedlings from Bob's hybridizing can be found on the "SELECTED 2005 SEEDLINGS" page. Each year 50 -100 new and recent daylily introductions are added to the garden. Many types of daylilies are grown including: tetraploids, diploids, doubles, large flowering, single flowering, small flowering, and miniatures. Peak daylily bloom is mid-June through mid-July.
Visitors are always welcome to the garden during daylily bloom season. A phone call would be appreciated at other times to make sure that someone is available to show you through the garden. The garden is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 AM-Dusk. On Sunday the garden is open 1 PM -Dusk. The garden is closed on Mondays.
This year, Bob is offering large flowering tetraploid daylily seedlings for $2.50 each. These are seedlings from his hybridizing program. See details on the "DAYLILY SEEDLING SALES" page.
