There were several Royal Queens and Princesses of Ancient Egypt that held the name Sitamun. I take my name from a Royal Princess and a Queen of Amenhotep III. Sitamun lived during the 18th Dynasty, and was the eldest daughter of Pharaoh Amenhotep III and his chief Queen Tiy (1391-1353 B.C.). Sitamun is often dipicted in art playing the sistrum before her parents and many of her images show her wearing the lotus crown with royal cobra or gazelle at the brow accompanied by her signature short nubian style wig. Some scholars also believe Sitamun may have held the title "God's Wife of Amun" during her father's reign. Queen Tiy urged her husband, Amenhotep III, to accept Sitamun as a consort, many scholars feel this marriage was symbolic of the goddess Hathor and the Goddess' relationship to her father, husband; as daughter and mother of the God Ra. Sitamun is believed by some scholars to be the mother of Tut'ankhamun as a result of this marriage, however, there is no evidence that suggests Sitamun bore her father-husband any children. Sitamun is depicted on many monuments with her father and mother and royal sisters. Sitamun had two royal brothers Thutmose and Amenhotep IV(Akhenaten)and five known royal sisters: Henut-Taneb, Isis, Nebetah, and Beketaten. Although it appears she was an “heiress princess” there is no evidence that she was a wife of Amenhotep IV(Akhenaten). A chair that belonged to Sitamun was founded in her maternal grandparents' tomb. This chair is now housed in the Cairo Museum. She was buried with her father and mother at Thebes. In Ancient Egyptian Sitamun means "daughter of Amun". Amun was a favored god of the 18th Dynasty. Princess-Queen Sitamun's held several titles.... Singer of the Lord of the Two Lands King’s Wife, King’s Great Wife, King’s Daughter, King’s Daughter Whom He Loves, Eldest Daughter of the King, Great Daughter of the King Whom He Loves.
