- Keep It Simple or "KIS" was founded and created by Leon Hussey. The idea of an affordable, home-use compost tea brewer was conceptualized by Leon Hussey. Together, Leon and Linda Hussey operate Keep It Simple, Inc., as they had done in owning and running Classic Nursery and Land Company, a retail nursery and design/build landscape company for 18 years. The business, located on a salmon-bearing creek, became a real focus for developing environmentally-friendly ways of dealing with any horticulturally-related issues and environmental education. They have since sold the business, they operate K.I.S.® fulltime and continue owning the property where the nursery is located. The nonprofit Redmond Organization for Shared Environments (R.O.S.E.) still operates doing environmental education with community members and children. Through the development process, Leon learned from Dr. Elaine Ingham, the value of “good bacteria” and experimented with many different ways to increase the population of the good microbes. Many trials later, a 5-gallon compost tea brewer was created and he has since developed a 28-gallon, a 55-, 100-, 500-, and 1,000-gallon brewer.
