Shefaro.com breeds show quality and therapy borzoi hounds from SanAntonio

About Shefaro.com

Shefaro, located in San Antonio, Texas, is a renowned breeder of show quality and award winning Borzoi, Boer goats, Salukis, Ibizan hounds, sheep, livestock guard dogs and Greyhounds.

How it Began

Shefaro began when Sherry Faye Rodarmor imported her first Borzoi female, Cherta, from Switzerland in 1978. She became a recognized name in the show ring in 1988 with her first special, Eagle. Since then she has won numerous accolades as a top Borzoi breeder, had numerous top producing bitches and has produced many Top 10 & World Championship conformation winners, as well as obedience, lure coursing, rally, agility, service and therapy. Sherry believes her award winning success at shows and in performance competitions comes
Shefaro's foundation bitch... The Empress Cherta
from her careful breeding and importing only the highest quality of bloodlines from Europe. After unsuccessful attempts with American bred dogs, she now imports her dogs from Sweden, Denmark and Poland. Coincidentally, some of these dogs have bloodlines that can be traced back to her foundation bitch Cherta. After years of importing and mixing and blending those lines, Shefaro is ready to embark on a new creation - Danish x Swedish. I have two wonderful Borzoi that will ultimately be bred to one another. Chico Blanco is out of the Swedish side of Shefaro while Jada is out of the Danish side. The results will be posted eventually, most likely in 2011. In the meantime, I have had the pleasure of breeding some fabulous Salukis from some top bloodlines. Please email for information and webpage addresses.

What it has Become

Service and Therapy Dogs at Shefaro have helped a number of people, winning affection and admiration.

After she gained success at shows and competitions, Sherry branched out into obedience, rally, agility, coursing and her great source of pride, service and therapy dogs. Normally Borzoi is not a breed of dog that is chosen for service and therapy work but since Shefaro's Borzois are bred for their stable and gentle temperaments, they have been able to adapt well into this new arena; the positive feedback that she receives is testimony to her unfailing dedication. From lure coursing to conformation, to obedience and rally, to loving companions and especially sighthounds with temperaments to be service and therapy dogs, Sherry Rodarmor, Sherry Faye Rodarmor, Shefaro Borzoi and Sighthounds, has done it all. Agility is another venue in which Shefaro Borzoi are excelling. Winslow and Zoe are winning in agility and having a blast with their owners. Agility is an amazingly difficult competition, but Winslow and Zoe take it all in stride and win top honors.

Why it's Different

Shefaro differs from other breeders because Sherry treats her dogs like members of the family rather than a product that is for sale. Her dogs are championship bloodline show quality dogs but are bred to be companion pets. Unlike other breeders who raise their dogs in kennels, Shefaro's dogs are raised on a farm and are allowed to run free and socialize with children and other animals. This added socialization lends to their wonderful temperaments and makes them the perfect family pet. Shefaro guarantees the health and quality of all of the dogs and sells them without registration, resale or breeding rights. Anyone who is interested in purchasing one of the dogs must go through an application and screening process to make sure the dogs get placed in proper homes.

Dogs are free to run around the farm and socialize with children and other animals.

Other Animals at Shefaro

Shefaro is more than just a place for dogs - goats and sheep live there too. The first herd of Pygmy goats was acquired in 1994 and one day, while shopping for additional pygmies to build the herd, Sherry discovered and fell in love with Boer goats. She then imported Uno, her first full-blooded sire, and several full-blooded nannies from Africa. Since then her herd has continued to grow. Although her goats are show quality, she no longer breeds them as show goats because their fate often ended with slaughter or consumption.

Testimonials

OMG... We are stunned. You are so wonderful :) We are both sitting here looking at your web-site and are so impressed with the fact that you already put Nicholas' name, Scooby on there. Now this, a link right to us, how cool :):):):) Steve and I look like a couple of school kids with grins from ear to ear on our faces. The kids are already asleep, but I can't wait to show them. NIcholas is going to flip. No Pun intended although he just might and certainly could. Steve and I are soooo excited, we can hardly stand it. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You really are the best and feel so blessed to have found you.Pam

Bomber was very stoic and at first. I think he knew everything in his world was about to change and he was not excited. Then, somewhere around Waco, he started eating and drinking everything in sight, and he has been very happy ever since. We stopped several times and each time he seemed to know it was a bathroom break and each time he stayed right at my feet...Thanks for everything

About their dog "Boris Winkosaurus": He is such a GOOD dog. He’s way more calm than I remember my previous Borzois being. He is also, well, just “dignified,” never nervous or anything. Not overly obsequious or fawning at all – very “well adjusted.” He plays and runs a lot, even chasing the bigger dogs around like old buddies. He is very happy at our home; getting near constant attention from all species. He is very secure around bigger dogs – even cats. He plays with all the dogs as rough as he wants (He’ll squeak kind of if they get to be too much for him - and they back right off since they’re just playing too) He isn’t scared of anything!
I just can’t tell you how much we think of him and the obviously very wholesome environment in which he had been raised before he came to us. (That’s you!)

About their Saluki pups "Vito and Figaro": Hi Sherry, The pictures of the puppy's with the stuffed animals were so cute that I had to have them printed on photo paper and there on my fridge for everyone to see. I never get tired of looking at their birth, and at all the other pictures you post of all your other dogs and animals. What a great way to live. When I die I want to come back in your care. I read about Alegria, I think that was her name, and the cute little pygmy goats... I hope i am not destroying the names of these cute little creatures, do you have tons of help? Your an amazing photographer too. Girl you're just a jack of all trades. I am so honored to have gotten to know you and cant wait to share my photos with you. I will need to be taught how to put them on line) and my daughter will help me I just know it. Every time I pass Jace, I want to just kiss him for finding me you. Have a great evening, Vali

About Greyhound Maja and Borzoi Juliet: Hi Sherry,

Thanks so much for breeding such as great dog! Our Maja is such a joy to our home. I appreciate the way you evaluate potential family members for your pups. It shows that you are truly a responsible and accountable breeder. In addition, it is so reassuring that you keep in touch with the families who purchase your pups. It indicates that you care about your dogs and also allows families to discuss concerns or laughs regarding their new family member. Maja is such a perfect model of the greyhound breed and everything that I was looking for in a companion and partner. She is ready to give her all when I need her to, or just ready to relax when I don't. Her intelligence is allowing her to make leaps and bounds in obedience and her winning personality and beauty attracts the attention of everyone she meets. And I might add she never meets a stranger! She absolutely loves people. As a therapist, I have always wanted to incorporate pet therapy in the services I provide to my patients. Maja is working to make that dream a reality for me. Thanks again. Maja says "Hi" and we'll continue to keep you updated on our lives together. Peace,

Tracy
