Description
About Sale Chamber Orchestra
Sale Chamber Orchestra was formed in April 1978 by the late John Walker-Jones (1949-1985), assistant principal viola in the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Originally intended for the talents of local players in the Sale area, it grew rapidly to include new members from all over Greater Manchester and north Cheshire. The orchestra performs about three concerts a year in Sale itself and has also performed in neighbouring districts such as Warburton, Fallowfield, Macclesfield, Dunham Massey, Tatton Park, and Standish and also as far a field as Sheffield, Cumbria, Shropshire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. The orchestra has been running the Trafford Young String Player triennially since 1988.
