Title
The Saltire Society
Description
The brainchild of a number of people who in the 1930s saw a need to interest the Scots themselves in their own rich culture - the arts, literature, music and also their country´s history and its environment. The name Saltire is taken from the saltire, the heraldic name of the Cross of St. Andrew.
The Society today continues to follow its forebears´ example, but in addition and with exciting times ahead - in Europe and the Scottish Parliament - the Society is developing closer links with other EU countries and is conscious of the need to advise the new Parliament on Scottish cultural matters.
The aim of the Saltire Society is to preserve all that is best in Scottish tradition and to encourage every new development which can strengthen and enrich the country's cultural life.
