Description
Sails and Saddles Trakehners started as a small family run farm here in the northern part of Idaho. We began our breeding farm with three mares; Green Clover, a Thoroughbred mare with an ATA Futurity bid; Nadia, a mare from Edith Kosterka's stallion Nenufar and Arnika X, a State's Premium, DLG champion, imported daughter out of Arwetta. We only produced two foals a year, but all the fillies have gone on to be foundation breeding mares for their various owners and the colts have all been talented show horses or breeding sires
In 2001 we decided that it was time to enter the world of stallion ownership. We traveled to Denmark and tried and inspected many stallions. Finally we were introduced to Grete Aagaard, Breeder of the Year in Denmark. She had two fabulous stallions, 7/8 brothers, both by the great sire Gribaldi. Both of the boys were beautiful and talented but quite different. Which one should we choose? We went back and forth, should we take the strong powerful one with exceptional conformation, or the refined graceful one with charm and presence? Finally our decision was made, we'd take BOTH!
The result of that decision has made the mare owner's job easier. The bloodlines presented here are some of the best in Europe, and available here only through these two stallions. And no matter what type of mare you have, either Kobra or Kougar will compliment the mare and improve her offspring. It just may be "one stop shopping" at its best!
