Rusting Educational Services (RES) designs, produces, and sells curriculums including lesson plans and study guides for young adult books, poems, and English language tasks. The materials developed by RES are specifically developed for use with students from intermediate grades through
RES materials are based on a methodology designed by Jean Rusting, which supports the concept of student-directed learning. For example, rather than asking a student to "fill in the blanks" after reading a chapter of a book, an RES lesson plans guide students in creating their own questions about the chapter. The success of this approach has been proven in a variety of learning environments including inner city classrooms (where Ms. Rusting teaches), team teaching situations, and special education classes.
The RES curricular materials are an exceptionally good value because each one has been carefully tested and refined with one goal in mind: to provide students and teachers with practical, easy-to-use, academically challenging materials which support student academic growth while addressing affective issues and skill levels. Virtually every strategy suggested/taught in the various units is a transferable strategy—these strategies can be successfully implemented in a wide range of disciplines and for varying skill levels.
