The centerpiece of our Pride celebration is the Pride-in-the-Park festival. Since it's inception in 1989, this gathering is the largest annual gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender event in Western Virginia. RoanokePride, Inc. is proud to bring professional entertainment to our community each year for this festival! As an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, RoanokePride uses all donations to fund various activities, including Pride in the Park. Additionally, donations from the proceeds are made to various LGBT organizations throughout Western Virginia each year. With your generous help, we hope to increase the monies donated back into the community, as well as continue to host LGBT events with famous and local talent. RoanokePride also awards the Lambda Service Award (for outstanding individual achievement) and the Community Service Award (for outstanding achievement of an organization). These annual awards are given to deserving community members and groups that are nominated by the very public that they serve. Nominations may be made through the Awards page.

The History of Pride in the Park In 1989, a group of individuals from different organizations within the Roanoke Valley came together to plan the first Pride in the Park. Throughout the years, this event has grown to encompass many aspects of our community. In addition to the Lambda Service Award and the Community Service Award, which are always presented during the Pride in the Park festival, in 1999 the Pride committee voted to start donating a portion of the proceeds from our fund-raising to several area organizations, which we have continued. Roanoke Pride, Inc. was formed in 2001 from the foundation of the Pride in the Park committee.

Sponsorship and donations of dollars, services and products has become increasingly important to keep Pride growing! Many sponsors have reaped favorable rewards by tapping a consumer group that is the most affluent, well educated and well traveled group of people with the most disposable income in the country! Surveys reveal that gays & lesbians are fiercely loyal to those businesses that advertise their products and services in our publications and participate in our events.
