Description
Julian Ross is the owner and guide at the “Stefan cel Mare” riding centre, the longest established trail riding centre in Romania. As a British national, with wide experience of looking after tourists of many nationalities, he understands well the needs of visitors to Romania.
Julian is a Chartered Engineer, and formerly worked in London designing and building new stations for the London Underground network. A great enthusiast for Eastern Europe and particularly Romania , he first visited Romania in 1990, and moved there permanently in 1999. Since then, he established the riding centre to offer high quality trail riding tours. Julian is a founding member of the Romanian National Committee for Equestrian Tourism. He is the author of three books, including “Travels in an Unknown Country” (describing his ride across Romania in 1994) and technical books on architecture and farriery.
Appropriately for a guide, Julian has travel in his blood, many of his ancestors coming from north-western Scotland and the Hebrides . A descendent of Robert Bruce, his forebears include a pirate, an exciseman, one of the last outlaws in Britain , and an associate of Robert Louis Stevenson. Some of his ancestors were sailors, Norwegians as well as Scots, and historically his family owned a shipping line.
